                   Topic:  "The FBI and the Current Climate"
Rick Smith entered on duty as Special Agent with the FBI in November of 1970. He was initially assigned to Seattle, Washington before being transferred to San Francisco in 1972. For 20 years, he was involved with Soviet counterintelligence and investigated both domestic and international espionage cases. From 1992 to 1995, Mr. Smith worked as Media Representative for the San Francisco Division of the FBI. He was responsible for handling all FBI matters, including the Polly Klaas kidnapping case and the UNABOM investigation. In 1995, he was promoted to Supervisor of the Russian Counterintelligence Squad. Rick Smith is a consultant to Bay Area media on a wide variety of law enforcement, intelligence and terrorist matters and frequently appears on Bay Area television.

Dan Walters is an influential newspaper columnist who has chronicled the people and politics of California's state Capitol for more than 40 years.  In January 2017, he joined CALmatters, the pubic interest journalism venture committed to explaining how California's state Capitol works and why it matters.  His books include "The New California: Facing the 21st Century" and "The Third House: Lobbyists, Money and Power in Sacramento".  Notably, Mr. Walters was the nation's youngest editor of a daily newspaper at age 22, and he joined the Sacramento Union's Capitol bureau in 1975 just as Jerry Brown began his first governorship. His perspective on over four decades of change in Sacramento is unequalled.

Assemblyman Allen is the leader in the effort to repeal S.B. 1, the gas tax increase effective November 1, and is a declared GOP candidate for Governor in 2018. A recent UC Berkeley poll found that 58% opposed S.B. 1, which will also increase diesel fuel taxes and annual vehicle registration fees. Mr. Allen was a certified financial planner before being elected to the CA Assembly in 2012.

She is a former Republican Congressional candidate (Wisconsin), manager for municipal code enforcement (Orange County), immigration coordinator for the Coalition of Government Officials (southern California), and president of the Citizens Committee for Immigration Policy. Susan is the married mother of six children and has 11 grandchildren.

Carson also explores domestic economic policy, tax policy, and the intersection of energy and environmental policy.  Before joining the Hoover Institution, Carson structured tax-exempt and taxable municipal bond issuances as a public finance investment banker, which gave him an in-depth look at state and local fiscal policy decisions.

He received his master’s degree in public policy with honors from Pepperdine University, specializing in economics and American politics. He has a BS in accounting and business management, with special attainments in commerce, from Washington and Lee University.

Bush’s Administration, Mr. Yoo also served as general counsel of the Senate Judiciary Committee and law clerk to Justice Clarence Thomas. He is currently Professor of Law at UC Berkeley.  His latest book was published in April 2014: Point of Attack: Preventive War, International Law and Global Warfare!
